Project Sever 2007 and Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 on same machine

Why is it not possible to install Project Server 2007 on a server that
already has Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 on it?

What if the server has both Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 and MOSS
2007? Can I install Project Server 2007 on the server then?

Thanks!

Hi Andy,

it may be techically possible, but not feasable. the reason why you would
want to upgrade your portal to 2007 first is because project server 2007 is a
sharepoint application which utilises a lot of SharePoint 2007 functionality,
not to mention that Project Server 2007 does not work without WSS 3.0

You would essentially have 2 separate systems that cannot talk to eachother
nor utilise their great synergy.
Hope this helps

I ask because our Sharepoint Team is migrating from SPS 2003 to MOSS
2007, but doing it all on the same server. I know if I want to then
integrate MOSS 2007 and Project Server 2007, I have to install the
Project Server 2007 binary files on the same computer as MOSS 2007.
However, this computer has SPS 2003 on it as well, and when I tried
this, I got an error message that said Project Server 2007 could not
be installed on a machine that has SPS 2003.

Thanks, Gary. Our plan is to use a seperate machine for Project
Server 2007; however, I still have to install the binary files on the
machine that is running MOSS 2007 (at least, that is my
understanding). So, if that machine has SPS 2003, I cannot install
the binary files. I was wondering why this is the case --- do anyone
know why Project Server 2007 conflicts with SPS 2003?
