Project & Sharepoing with SQL2000/2005

Is it advisable for Project Server to use the same backend as
Sharepoint Portal 2003? Our Sharepoint Portal server uses SQL 2005 as
the backend and we were wondering if it would be ok for Project Server
to use the same backend should we decide to integrate it with
Sharepoint.

I've read on a number of posts that SQL2005 is not officially supported
by Project Server 2003. I also tested a couple installations of Project
Server on Sharepoint and I did run into installation issues, even with
the fix that many have recommended. That route seems unstable so I
think using SQL 2000 as the backend will be our preferrence.

Would it be ok for Project Server to use a different backend from
Sharepoint? Are there any foreseeable issues in doing this? Thanks!
