Project Templates and the Enterprise Global

I have changed the enterprise global to put some more useful info out to our
PMs, but this has not changet the project templates or our admin template and
cannot get it to do so. How do I get the enterprise global to "update" the
templates in the same way it has the published projects?

You are totally misunderstanding the purpose of the Enterprise Global
template, which serves as your organization's "library" of enterprise
objects, such as Fields, Views, Tables, Filters, Groups, Reports, etc. You
use the Enterprise Global file to distribute enterprise objects to everyone
using Microsoft Project Professional and logging into Project Server in your
organization. Beyond this "library" function, you can use the Enterprise
Global file to enforce a single currency in every project in the
organization.

Therefore, when you made changes to the Enterprise Global, it did not (nor
will it ever) alter any other projects or templates. I would recommend that
you change each of your other templates manually. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale - What I was actually trying to do was add a column to the gantt
chart view to show baseline work. You cannot do this in individual projects
or in the templates as edits of the global items are not saved - instead you
get a message to say that you should do the edits on the checked out
enterprise global. Adding the column to the enterprise global followed by
closing and reopening project 2003 populates this view to my enterprise
projects but not the templates.

Here's how to accomplish what you wish:

1. Open the Enterprise Global file
2. Click View - Table - More Tables
3. Select the Enterprise Entry table and click the Edit button
4. Add your additional column and click OK
5. Click Apply
6. Save and close the Enterprise Global file
7. Close and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional

Whenever anyone creates a new project, whether from a blank project or from
one of your enterprise project templates, he/she can simply apply the
Enterprise Gantt Chart view to see the new column. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale - spot on. Looking through the newsgroup it looks as if a lot of
us have similar problems - we know what enterprise global is supposed to do
for us we just don't understand how to do it. A bit more study in the books
that you and others have written on project and the server seems in order!
