project-to-project milestone links

(As suggested by Gary L. Chefetz in another thread)

To achieve something like Give Gets I am considering creating a Milestone
schedule that is populated by links to milestones in all the other files in
my instance. I have mocked it up and it works exactly the way I want it to.

What worries me is that in time I could have a thousand links between
projects. Will all these project-to-project links be a problem for the data
base?!?! Within the database do the project-to-project links require more
resources then links within a project.

I am prepared for the links file to be slow to open.

I looked at deliverables and do not think it works for my user base. SRS
reports are out if the question as we do not have an in-house programmer.

Hi John,

As it's the New Year (season for good deeds) and in-between jobs, I'd be
more than happy to create a Milestone SRS Report for you. Send your email
address to (e-mail address removed) and I'll send you (and anyone else that's
wants it) the SRS solution containing a Milestone Report.

Given that the report does not yet exist, please let me know your
requirements, ie

Project Details to be displayed (name, owner, start date etc please only
state default attributes)

Filters. Some suggestions maybe be:-

Current Projects/All Projects
Owner
Project Name

Please feel free to add any other requirements.

I'll pass on the report to Microsoft and maybe they will include it in the
next release of the report pack.

Regards

Paul

I've created two SRS Reports.

One which details Milestones by Project (Project Owner is also listed in the
report). Other columns in the reports are task name, baseline finish,
finish, finish variance, overdue (yes/no). All overdue milestones show in
red.

The other is a list of all overdue Milestones grouped by project. This
report has the same details as the previous one with the exception of the
overdue column.

These reports only use default system fields, so all you'll need to change
is the datasource.

If anyone wants a copy of these SRS reports, please drop me a email
(e-mail address removed)

I appreciate the offer but my we do not want to install anything that we can
not maintain ourselves. We already have a SRS report that sort-of works but I
want to use anything we can not maintain ourselves.
