Project Type - Masters and Sub Projects

All,

Hoping someone can help me understand the logic so I can build a view for
what I need.

Need:
Individual projects owned by different people
Master project by core area that the individual projects are inserted into.
Master project that includes all master projects to get a true program view

What happens when I try to create this view.
Project Type for the first type of Master project describe change to
inserted project (no longer say Master Project)
Only thing showing as a project type of Master project is the second Master
Project described.

Anyone have a good work around for what I need to accomplish that don't
involve a SQL report?

So the individual project view is for the individual project manager
The first describe Master project view is for the program manager of that area
The other Master that includes all the above Masters is for the VPs.

Thanks!

Hi L8trdays

Not sure why you think you have a problem. A detail project view will
display what you want for each audience. The fact that the the second
level master is "inserted project" type" is not really a problem.

HI Mike,

Thank you for your response, but apparently I wasn't very clear. This is a
huge problem when you build a filter around Project Type.

I need a view to show all Master projects. Since I have inserted Master
Projects into another Master project the only thing the filter picks up now
is the Highest level master project.

Depending on a person's level it will depend on what Master project they can
see. Only VP's can see the Top level Master project. The directors need to
see thier divisions Master project and since those master projects project
type has been changed to inserted project I have no way to filter on them.

Unless.... Someone has a better way to accomplish what I am trying to do
without building a custom report.

Thanks

Hi L8rdays

I guess you are talking about a project center view rather than a
project detail view, and therefore using project type as a filter.
You can do one of two things:
1)change your filter - use another custom field. I typically create a
custom field which distinguishes work package, project, programme and
BAU plans - hence you could identify your master plans in a similar
fashion.
2)create an explicit category which includes specific master plans.
You will probable need to associate that with a new groups for the
different levels of management

Hi Mike,

Thanks again for your response. Yes I was talking about Project Center. VP
level viewing. (doesn't want a lot of details) :)

I had thought about additional custom fields but getting that filled out is
starting to get ugly and was hoping there was a cleaner way that didn't
involve a custom report that waved a magic wand and knew exactly what each
user wanted to see when, just by looking at the desktop icon. :)

Thank you again for your valuable input. Today it would be managable to
capture this info with additional custom fields, but in the future as our use
of this tool grows we are asking for a lot of custom fields to be filled out
and could get ugly. Just may need to go to custom reporting. (Yeah more
for me to learn, and quickly!) :)

Hi there,

I got your mail , just very busy at the moment. What will need to
happen is custom fields needs to be created , and filtered for on
Project level. Lookup table containing "Project" and "programme".
Using that you build a filter on project center and sort by PM name.
Will respond more detailed later on via mail.
