When doing your tests, try doing it with the Add-In open (and another
document as your active document). The Add-In remains loaded as an Add-In
but it is also an open template. Then your code should be viewable. My
regular work (and development) environment has more than 10 Add-Ins open. I
regularly open an Add-In for editing. I regularly run the new or edited
procedures in other open documents to test them.
Generally, once I've finished the editing and testing I close and reopen
Word to do my non-vba work.
