Project unviewable error

Word 2000
Some of my own saved templates when loaded for alteration give me a
"Project Unviewable" error and I can't get into the code or Userforms.
What am I doing wrong?
I haven't protected them myself.

I haven't added a digital signature as far as I know. (Don't know how
to do it yet.)

no, it can also happen with document corruption too. I imagine there
are other reasons.

I export the modules and generally rebuild the template from scratch,
I have code to help me with this. The problem then goes away. Fun huh.

Thank you.
I'll try exporting to a new Template then and see if this works.
Mind you, I can't get into the UserForms etc due to the "Project is
Unviewable" message
I seem to remember reading sometime ago that this could happen if the
correct Template (?!? can't remember the circumstances) wasn't loaded
but how can this happen when it comes from the current Template
anyway?

You can't export the project, either. -- or at least I can't.

Like John, I didn't do anything to lock this project and didn't sign it.

I had this problem too. When it occurred with me is when I wanted to debug
an Add-In Template. It gave me the Project Unviewable until I unchecked it
as an Add-in. Of course, it's not there at all anymore after doing that.
Frustrating. If you find any solutions to this, I would be grateful..

This problem is frustrating.
I can't see how it's been around for so long and there appears to be
no answer to it.
It's not a digital signature. It's not an add-in in the Start
directory. It's not corrupted. It hasn't been locked.
The only other avenue I have gleaned is that it's something to do with
having the wrong Template attached, maybe the Template has been
renamed slightly having been saved a few times during designing and
alteration.
Has anyone come across this or can anyone check this out?

Yours is a different problem from mine. The solution to your problem is to
Open the template - the Add-In directly. It is loaded - for use - when it is
an Add-In, but it is not open for editing. Open it so that it is the active
document in Word, then you should be able to edit your project.

My problem is a project in either an open document/template or an attached
template that can't be viewed. Note, an Add-In is not an attached template.

what I would like to do is be able to test the Add-In while in another
document and then see where the problem or error is. Unfortunately,
sometimes I don't get the error when the template itself is open so I can't
go to the debug and find the specific problem.

When doing your tests, try doing it with the Add-In open (and another
document as your active document). The Add-In remains loaded as an Add-In
but it is also an open template. Then your code should be viewable. My
regular work (and development) environment has more than 10 Add-Ins open. I
regularly open an Add-In for editing. I regularly run the new or edited
procedures in other open documents to test them.

Generally, once I've finished the editing and testing I close and reopen
Word to do my non-vba work.

I was previously able to do what Charles suggests: open the Add-In and
then open a test document that relies on the Add-In. I was able to
break and debug.

Now, I can edit the template while it's open, but as soon as I open a
test document I get the "Project Unviewable" message.

I am accustomed to working in Word 2000 and am now working in Word
2002. Is this a new security "feature"?

Where is the definitive website on Word development? Microsoft's KB is
no longer usable...
