Project View by Start and End Date in Piviot Table

Hello,

I am having a hard time creating a piviot table. I am tring to work of 3
different fields:

Project Name
Start Date
End Date

I would like the Piviot chart to display each task and their duration.
There are about 10 active projects. I would like to see how many are ongoing
during certian times. I do not want the start and end date to be seperate.
Each project would show an active line of its life span.

Can this be done? If so where can I turn to. I have been playign around with
this and I cannot get it to come out.
