Project Won't Force Checkin - hence I can't Delete it

So, this one is baffling.

I was asked to delete 3 old projects that are no longer in use from
Project Server. (2007)

I went to PWA -> Server Settings -> Delete Enterprise Objects and went
to delete the projects adn their workspaces. Couldn't delete Project
X becuase it said it was still checked out.

So, I went to the Force Checkin location and noticed that indeed
Project X was still checked out. So, I tried to force it in, but it
never goes.

I have watched the queue, it eventually errors out or just hangs as
"waiting to be processed"

I asked the original owner of Project X to reopen the project in
Professional, make some stupid change, save it and check it back in.

here's the strange part. Project X doesn't exist in the list of
projects you can open. There is a newer project called Project XA
that has a similar name that he uses, but the original Project X isn't
listed as a project on the server to open. (It's also NOT listed in
the Project Center list)

So, I thought, OK, let's see what creating a new project and naming it
the same as Project X. But i can't, it tells me that there is already
a project in the database named Project X.

Has anyone seen this?? I just want this project to go away!

CSGirl,
<"waiting to be processed">
Have you tried to clean up your local cache ? (directly on your hard disk,
not only via the Project menu : Tools / Cleanup Cache...)

Hi CSGirl,

I have encountered the same problem and posted the question on 1 Oct, search
for "Ghost Project Files". I was adviced to try clear the checkout_by column
inthe Draft database. The steps are as follows:

Go to SQL Management studio
1) Click on Draft database
2) Open MSP_PROJECTS table
3) find your "ghost" project strings.
4) find CHECKOUT_BY column (approximatelly in the middle of table)
5) set NULL in column above for ghost project string
6) try to delete project from PWA

You may want to try this first, for my case, it could not clear the project
even it is no longer checked out, so I end up removing the affected rows from
the database.

Hope this help.

Regards
Godrid
