Project won't save baseline

no error code is given, but Project won't save a baseline
for me. It did clear the previous baseline when I chose
that option, but would not save a new one, using Tools-
Tracking-Save Baseline-Entire Project. It won't baseline
selected tasks, either.

I don't remember exactly how the original baseline got
saved, but it was tricky. Even another user on another
workstation couldn't get a baseline saved. The first time,
when I was originally able to finally save a baseline, one
of the techniques used was to copy/paste the tasks and
resources to a new file.

What could be causing this? How to overcome it? I know
other users including power users who have never
encountered this. No MS book or 3rd party reference
refers to this. I don't think it is my workstation, as we
couldn't save a baseline on another machine, either.

This is not a particularly big or complex project. Seems
routine to me. Sixty (60) tasks, less than 50 resources,
has some custom views but those views are in other mpps
that work fine. Dependencies between some but not all
tasks.

Any insight or commnets would be appreciated.

Which version of project? If it is proj98 then I suggest you check to make
sure it is updated to Service Release 1. If not, then it sounds like you may
have a corrupt file. In that case there are two choices, first, save as a
project database, then open the database and save back as an mpp file. The
second choice is to paste all the tasks into a new file.

If this is only happening on your machine, then I think you might want to
check your HD, check your network connection etc. to see if there is some
hardware issue causing the corruption.
