Project Workspace location

MOPS 2007 SP2 and WSS 3.0.

We already have WSS 3.0 team sites set up under the /sites path that were
created with the oob wss team site template. As long as we use the Project
Workspace template, can we set up project workspaces as subsites under the
team sites. I mean, technically I know we can and I know how, but are there
any issues/gotchas that have been experienced in the field.

Thanks,

You should be fine....as long as they're all in the same site collection,
the PWA webparts will work just fine.

You should note however that the recommended approach is to keep PWA in its
own site collection, and keep your workspaces in a second site collection.
It may be too late to implement that architecture already - but if you haven't
created any workspaces or used PWA much, you may wish to consider this as
an option.

Hi Andrew,

The team sites *are* separate site collections from PWA; we had WSS way
first and installed MOPS into same WSS farm.

PWA = /server/pwa
Team Sites = /server/sites/team1, server/sites/team2 and so on.

Workspaces would be /server/sites/team1/projectA,
server/sites/team2/projectB...

Is there an issue if the different project workspaces are *not* in the same
site collection? (projectA workspace would be in different site collection
than projectB workspace) Same web application, same content database.

Thanks,
jremc

I just found a "gotcha" (being new to MOPS) -- the PWA web parts are not
available outside of PWA site collection. Not sure if that matters in our
environment. But I'm leaning towards keeping workspaces under PWA and placing
links in team sites to them.

If best practice is to have separate site collection and Workspace
Provisioning settings are configured for that second collection, will PWA web
parts be available there?

Hi Andrew,

Thanks! That's great. I subscribe to Christophe's RSS for some months now,
but haven't had time to peruse older entries.

We haven't started using MOPS for production yet, and I do have time to test
different scenarios. I have an instance of PWA for testing/training that has
a pilot project. I can create a new site collection for the workspaces,
change the location to that in Provisioning, and test. I'm also going to test
using a workspace from our WSS IT Team site.

Thanks again,
jremmc
