Projects stay in viewdrop for over 30 minutes sometimes

When we publish a project, especially our largest one, it can take over 30
minutes to publish (to disappear from Viewdrop) During this time our server
is rel quiet, and VWNotify never goes over 25% of CPU. Very little other
activity. Everyone watches for the XML's to fall out of viewdrop so that
they are sure our external time keeping program has been updated with the
info from Project Server. This project has about 5000 tasks.

If we publish 8 or 10 at one time, it can take even longer to publish, but
they all disappear from view at the same time.
Is there a way to increase the speed of publishing.

Since there is hardly any other activity on the server, I am hesitant to try
offloading the Views Notification Service. My Proj server is on a GB switch
with my SQL box and I have no network storms of anykind.

If I send my database to Microsoft they say it can publish in under 5 minutes.
Any ideas? Thanks
