proliferating bullets

B

Bonnie S.

I have MSWord 2002 Professional. Trying to use the styles
is driving me crazy. New styles seem to be created every
time I type a document so that now the list of styles is
yards long!

Latest example: Now, for some reason, whenever I try to
create a bulleted list, all of the paragraphs in my
document acquire bullets! I have unchecked all the
autoformat boxes that say automatic bulleted lists, and I
still have this problem.

I also tried clicking on "modify style" (called in this
doc "11 pt normal plus bullet") there is
no "automatically update" box to uncheck, as you all
suggested to someone with a similar problem earlier
today. the regular "normal 11 pt" style does not have the
automatic update box checked.

PLEASE HELP!

FWIW, "11 point normal plus bullet" is not a style, just "formatting." If
you don't want to see formatting listed, you can clear the check box for
"Keep track of formatting" on the Edit tab of Tools | Options. But if you're
applying direct formatting in a consistent way, you should really be
applying styles instead.
