Promote/Demote commands disabled in some text areas

I can't recall coming across this in my many years of powerpoint, but I'm
constantly finding that (perhaps often after pasting text from another text
box) the ability to demote or promote the new text is lost (ie the icons are
greyed out), and the keyboard shortcut SHFT-ALT-Arrow also does not work.

Any idea what I need to do to make promote/demote available again in my text
box - other than re-typing it all every time?

Oh the challenges of switching to a more recent version of the tool! Makes
we want to be a dinosaur - all though the animation enhancements are pretty
good.

Try hitting the Enter key so your text starts off as a new bullet point.
Hopefully that makes your demote button available.

That didn't help.... but I figured out something in the process. My text
block was accidently the title text for the slide. Title text boxes appear
to not allow demote/promote. It's not obvious that this is the case unless
you are looking at the text version of the slide list (along the left side)
rather than the thumbnail view.

When I create a new text box and put the text in there, it's fine. (Hope
that helps anyone else that finds them in this situation too!)

Thanks for the reply.

How very interesting. I'd never noticed that.

Thanks very much for posting back with your findings! I'm sure it will help
someone in future.
