Promote/Demote Not Working in Notebook Layout View

The promote/demote feature has randomly stopped working, for the second time. Whether I use the buttons in the formatting palette, or press the tab key, nothing happens.

Another MAJOR problem:
While preparing this question, I tried to switch from the print layout view to notebook view, and the program was unable to do that without crashing. I thought installing the most recent updates would have remedied this problem, but it persists.

No, the 12.0.1 update addressed only some crashing bugs that could be fixed
quickly.

Update 12.1.0 is in testing now and will appear as soon as it passes. That
should resolve your issue, or at least, one of them.

There is a nasty knock-on effect from the Document Map feature that is
probably causing this. Notebook view uses specific styles to format the
paragraphs so the promote/demote feature works.

Document map applies different styles. That will both disable the
promote/demote feature and crash Word when it attempts to switch out of
Document Map.

Sorry: Coming soon.

Cheers
