Promotion Office 2008

Does it mean that former user of Office 2004 will have to pay the full
price? Curious way of treating long term clients. If it is not the
case, therefore, their communication is quite confusing and not clear.
Who knows about the pricing Microsoft will apply for older users?
Thanks

Those holding a legitimate license to a prior version will have upgrade
pricing available as in the past. Exactly what those prices will be I
haven't yet seen. I know the full retail prices have been announced, but I
don't believe the upgrades have been published as yet. It isn't unusual for
pricing to not be announced until closer to the availability date:)

Hmm... ask the question and answer it too?

Previous versions have launched with both standard pricing and
discounted upgrade pricing (that requires a previous version to be
installed or the previous version's media to be available).

That's pretty standard for most software vendors.

AFAIK, upgrade pricing, assuming it will be offered, hasn't been
specified publicly yet.

As far as the promotion, MS has run this type of "super suite" deal
before - it's good marketing, since it encourages those who might have
waited to purchase now, and it gets a certain base of the new version
shipped quickly, even before reviews are out.

At least one additional motivating factor...

It helps clear the warehouses of the older (2004) product that would
otherwise have to be turned into paperweights & doorstops:)

Well, it at least *distributes* the doorstops...

Well, I guess that we will have to live with the price... and MS will
get rid of their old version...
Marketing, marketing... when you hold us...
I'm curious to see the upgrade price... compared to the late buyer of
Office 2004...
Thanks for your comments everyone!

I'm curious to see the upgrade price... compared to the late buyer of
Office 2004...

Office 2008 for Mac ($399.95; $239.95 upgrade),

Office 2008 for Mac Home and Student Edition ($149.95)

Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition ($499.95; $299.95 upgrade).

Since there was no media edition before I'm not sure what the previous
package is they are referring to.
