Prompt to save under new format

I have just converted a bunch of RTF files to .doc, but it appears that the
..doc format was Word 97. I have Word 2000 on my laptop, and whenever I click
to save, it prompts me to see if I'm sure I want to save in 2000 format. Is
there any way I can just get Word to save this automatically in 2000 format,
without prompting me?

Word 97 and Word 2000 use the same file format.

How did you convert to RTF? RTF is an older Word document standard that Word
will open normally. If you try and save it again as RTF then you will get a
warning. If you save it as Word document (File > Save As - Word Document)
you won't. There is no essential difference between the file formats of Word
97 and 2000.

OK, perhaps I have been mistaken. I know I converted them to .doc, but
perhaps it was Word 6.0 or 95 then.

As far as how I converted them, I used Open Office's file converter (a macro
not in the actual program itself).

Well I found out what I was looking for. Its not a batch converter, but its a
filter that installs into MS Word itself. This will automatically save an
older Word file format into the 97/2000/03 Word format--without asking if
this is what you want to do. The only caveat I can see is that if you are
going to be using the same file on different computers with older versions
than 97 (incredibly unlikely) that you would need to be sure to do a Save As,
and then click on that older file format--b/c again, Word will save your file
in the new format without prompting you.
