Prompted for "Save Your Changes"

B

When I call up a Word doc and read it, and without touching the
keyboard, it prompts me to save my changes upon exit. I am certain that
nothing was changed.

Can someone tell me why it is prompting me? It sometimes makes me a
little nervous, thinking that I may have changed something.

There's probably a macro running that makes changes. Move your
"normal.dot" file out of the templates folder (as a temporary solution)
and see if the problem goes away. If so, you'll want to investigate the
normal.dot file for any unsavory code. ;)

I will get the same thing if all I've done is click on a hyperlink in my
document.

If you have speech recognition activated, your built-in or other mike may be
active and stray sounds (or expletives) might be picked up and "typed" into
the doct. This happened to me and I was mystified by stray words popping up
in the middle of words in the doct. Turned out to be this feature.

Nothing else I can think of to contribute. Sorry.

Richard

PS - Many other things mystify me too.

This is rarely due to a virus.
If you have up to date AV software, that's all you can do to minimize this
risk, short of learning VBA and examining all macros yourself.

More likely, you have some Auto* macro in either the Normal, or another
global, template, or some add-in that is changing something when you
open/close a doc, or start/exit Word.
