Hello there!

I hope you can help me somehow and hopefully I explain my matter appropriate to you.

I bought Microsoft Office 2008 in London few days ago, which means it is an English version. Actually I am Austrian and I am used to the German version naturally. Hence it is sometimes quite difficult for me to find the desired functions. For instance I am urgently seeking for the proof-reading function. I do not know if it is the right definition for it, therefore I ll go a bit deeper.

My girlfriend sent to me her thesis in order to examing the spelling, context and grammar. Since I did it already several times on the German version I know that there is a word function where you can visible alterate words, texts and phrases and give comments to the context, so my girlfriend could see my alterations.

Unfortunately I couldn´t find this function at all. Can you please let me know where it is hidden and how this function is named in the English version anyway?

I would be very pleased when you can give me a hand in that case.

Thanks a lot for your support.

Best regards

Clemens

Hi Clemens:

Spell-checking is called Tools>"Spelling and Grammar" in English.

But what controls the spell checker is the Language set in the text: use
Tools>Language... to set that.

Be aware that Word cannot spell-check in a language for which it does not
have a main dictionary installed. For example, you could set the text of a
document to Norwegian. But if you did, you would disable ALL spelling and
grammar including the Custom Dictionary, because Word does not have a
Norwegian dictionary.

However, the function you are looking for right now is called "Track
Changes". This enables you to preserve the old version and the new version
in the text, so she can see where you changed it.

You can turn it on from the Tools menu, or from the TRK button at the bottom
centre of the Word window in the Status Bar, or with Control + Shift + E.

When you do turn it on, the Reviewing toolbar will appear.

Hope this helps
