I'm having to proofread and edit someone else's document. I need to know how
to strikeout a word?

True strikethrough, or more as a "suggestion"?

There's a "strikethrough" font format available - you can see that in the Home
tab.

If more as a proof-reading suggestion, activate "Track changes". Then you can
press DELETE and it should appear as "strike through". Track changes is
controlled through the "Review" tab. You can turn it on, here, and you can
control how deletions and additions appear (the "Options").

Highlight the word, right click mouse, go to font - on the font tab under
effects check strikethrough or double strikethrough.
