Proper Handling of SharePoint Queue and Project Web Service calls

I have implemented the ERP Connector example solution for a commercial
integration prolject. It addresses a host of issues very nicely.

However, when communicating to Project Server web services, the connector
code does not address some of the timing issues that are produced by the
long-running aspects of the web services and the underlying delays introduced
by the SharePoint queue operations.

Does anyone know of discussions or resources that address ways of handling
these web service and queue interactions?
