Protect Merged Document

Good Morning
I was hoping someone could perhaps assist
I am currently merging records, Id Name And Surname from an Access 2003 DB
to a word Template.
The template will then be forwarded to a client to fill in the necessary
fields.
I can however protect the document prior to actually doing the merge from
Access.
But It seems it will not allow the document to be protected when a merge is
in progress,
Does anyone maybe know if their is a way around this.
I would really appreciate any advise
