Protected document/template from another user

Hi,

I've received a document/template from my work (I'm a contractor) although I
think it was created using Word 2003 and I'm using Vista Word 2007. The
document includes tick boxes that I click on to indicate a tick. It will
allow me to do that, but won't allow me to write in the document. So it must
be protected somehow. I've checked all other discussions trying to find an
answer, to no avail.

Can someone please help me unprotect my document so I can write my report?

PS: very important and urgent.

Thanks heaps, becksm6

Well, I'm afraid you've checked one discussion board too many - this one's
for Word on the Macintosh :) I work both sides of the street, however, so I
can tell you that there's most likely nothing you can do on your end.

The protection is probably password protected & without the password you
can't turn the protection off. If you're supposed to be completing areas of
the form & submitting it - rather than changing its design - either those
who put the form together have not done a proper job or you're trying to
edit in areas where you aren't supposed to make changes. Also...

There should be a Restrict Formatting & Editing Task Pane that appears when
you open the file which gives you the option of finding the regions you can
edit. It's also possible that you're actually opening the Template file -
which you aren't supposed to change - rather than generating new issues of
the documents/forms based on that template.

I'd suggest that you first contact your own people for clarification on how
to use the materials they've provided, but if you need further assistance
from the Word for Windows groups you'll find them listed here:
