Does anyone know why you have to unprotect the document so that you can
print it from a macro. The print macro changes printers and paper trays

It's not the printing that's a problem, obviously, but changing the paper
trays. A protected document means there are certain commands that cannot
be used. And, generally, what's protected for the user is also protected
against VBA; there are exceptions, but not many.
