Protected forms showing field codes when e-mailed

This is an intermittent problem with Word 2002, pre- and
post SP-2.

When sending a protected form, which displays field
results, to an external e-mail recipient, the form
displays field codes rather than results on recipient's
end. The recipient's version of Word is not known, but she
does receive the same form from others at our company
without a problem.

E-mail is sent from Word, using Send To Mail Recipient (as
Attachment). We're Outlook 2002 clients using an Exchange
server.

This is a problem at the receiving end. If the document that is open when
the recipient opens the form has field codes displayed, they will also be
displayed in the form, but they can't be toggled in the form (because it's
protected). Tell the recipient to close the form, press Alt+F9, and then
open the form again.

Suzanne,

Our recipient is using Word and Outlook 2000. I had her
open one of the form attachments that was showing field
codes, unprotect the form using the toolbar, and then
toggle the display to show field results. With that form
still open, she opened another form attachment, but again,
it displayed codes, not results.

Although she understands how to unprotect the forms and
toggle the display, those extra steps interfere with the
flow of work, so I'm still trying to find a better answer.

In my own copy of Word 2002, I can duplicate the carry-
over effect you spoke of below, but only with unprotected
forms. Any ideas on what to try next?

I'm out of ideas; this is just the way Word works, I'm afraid.
