Protected word form question

When my form is password protected it stops working (i.e. the text
boxes stop allowing you to fill them out/tab.
How do I fix this?

If you try to protect it without a password it works normally, but when you
protect it and add a password, it stops working?

What Word version?
What type of formfields/ActiveX controls (or Content controls with Word
2007) are you using?
What else does the document contain?
Anything special with that document, such as macros, weird content, etc.
