Protected worksheet allow users

Hello - we have Excel 2003 (SP3). We need users to be able to sort the cells
so when protecting the sheet we check sort under "Allow all users of this
worksheet to:" but Excel doesn't allow them to do anything to the sheet. The
users get the following error: "The cell or chart you are trying to change is
protected and therefore read-only. To modify a protected cell or chart,
first remove protection using the Unprotect Sheet command (Tools menu,
Protection submenu). You may be prompted for a password."

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Turn on autofilter first and then protect the sheet with the option checked
