Protecting a Template

Dodger Jim

I have a template document set up as a Memorandum for our office. I want to
set some protection for it so the user can edit and/or add to the document
but can not save the document to the same name and overwrite my template.
Under Tools, Protect Document, none of the three choices are giving me what I
want. Is there another way? Thanks!

If the user actually uses it as a template, that is, saves it to a templates
folder, creates a new document based on the template, and saves that
document, it shouldn't be a problem. For more on the different kinds of
templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of templates folders
see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

Otherwise, you can make it read-only, give limited rights to the folder
holding it or do other things.
