Protecting Cells' in workbooks

Is it possible to protect certain cells on a worksheet
without protecting the entire worksheet/workbook? The
same spreadsheet is used daily/weekly and one of our
employees inadvertantly deleted over 20,000 PO #'s - if
these cells were protected, then he/she couldnot have
deleted this information (correct???) Help!!
