Protecting resources

Using MS Project 2007 Pro

Is there a way to force a user to select a resource (in the resource column)
using the drop down? We have a shared project file and want to prevent
people from creating duplicate resources by typing them into the resource
cell.

Thanks

Tom Layson---
all you need just create resource pool.
1. you need to create resouce pool, add your resource in blank project and
save and give a name such "resource pool".
2. open / create a new project then go to tools---Resource Sharing--Share
Resource.
3. In Share resource choose, Use Resource from (name of file)
4. Click OK

now you can add resource just by selecting resource in resource name column,
and automatically it will add to resource sheet.
but remember...if you want use Resource Sharing, you should open resource
pool file.

hope this help
(click yes if my post really help you)

Hi Tom,

No, not directly. However, I would ensure that all project files
connected to the resource pool disable (uncheck) the option
"Automatically add new resources and tasks" that appears on the
Tools > Options, General tab.

If they attempt to enter a resource who is not in the pool, they
will receive a warning message. At that point, it's a training and
compliance issue.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
