Protecting Text

From what I have seen so far I am very impressed and excited about the way
this operating system functions and what it has to offer. I am researching so
that I can encourage my organization to purchase this system company wide. I
have noticed one problem thus far and wonder if I am over looking something
or if it is not available.

The tabs and search functions would be great for our training department to
organize training information. The problem would be that others using the
notebook for training could inadvertantly make changes to the text that is in
the note book.
I saved a test copy as PDF but then you loose the tab functionality of the
system.

What would be the best way to overcome this problem.
I would like people to view and navigate the note book just like it is
created without being able to make changes to the information on the pages.
Is that possible?

There are two options:

The first is to store the notebook on a network share, but give others
read-only permissions to it. Users will then be able to open the
notebook, but it will appear read-only and they will not be able to edit it.

Another option is to save the notebook as a package file (File->SaveAs,
and select "single file package" as the file type). You can then give
each user a copy of the package file, and when they open it up in
OneNote it will expand into a personal copy of the notebook. They could
then edit and take notes in it, without changing the master copy. The
downside is that if you make updates to the master copy they wouldn't
get those automatically.

I agree with kboeds. A read-only option would be wonderful. I would like to
use OneNote for a procedure manual for our laboratory. I can probably get our
IS department to set up a read-only folder on the server but it would be much
easier for me to manage and set up the notebook as read-only. You can do it
using Word and other documents. You can have read-only option in Access. Why
not in OneNote?
