Protecting worksheets from view on shared drive

Is it possible to create a workbook, with multiple worksheets to load onto a
shared drive, but to hide from view each worksheet assigned to a group. For
example, I would like to create a workbook with 5 worksheets, where the data
on the five sheets rolls up into a summary page, but each sheet is protected
from view by the person updating their sheet. I do not want each group
assigned to a specific worksheet to see each others data.

It may be possible but it depends entirely on what version of Excel you're
using - a "minor detail" which you neglect to mention. Based on where your
message is coming from we can't even be sure what OS you're using, but I
have reason to suspect that you may be on a Windows system. If that's the
case you'd do better to ask in one of the PC Excel groups [this one is for
Excel on the Mac as indicated in the group address]. If my hunch is right:

Could you create the summary workbook with links to data in individual
workbooks that each person keeps privately on his own hard drive?

As an intermediate step this may involve the creation of an individual
summary workbook on the shared drive, by each person, to overcome permission
issues. The problem is that each time somebody updates his own file he must
also open his own summary to update data for the master summary.
