Protection in 2003

Tracey

We have a document that was created and protected (with a password) in a
previous version of Word. In Word 2003, she wants to edit the form, so
clicks Unprotect and makes her changes. The button "Yes, Start Enforcing
Protection" is now greyed out and not clickable.

I searched some on-line technical sites to see if this was an issue with
other users, and I found several posts from people experiencing the same
problem in Word 2003. Unfortunately, none of them offered a solution.

What are we doing wrong? Is there a fix or a workaround?

Thanks,

Tracey

When this first happened to me in this version, I was baffled, too.
Turns out if you have it in design mode, the protection is
unavailable. So turn on the Control Toolbox from View > Toolbars and
make sure it's not in design mode.

Dian,

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I won't get to test this yet,
but we have a lot of protected forms so I'm sure the issue will come up
again. As a workaround, the user opened the doc in a version of Word prior
to 2003, unprotected it, made her edits, reprotected, and clicked to Start
Enforcing. I'll be sure to pass along this information.

I am having the same issue. I can't seem to reprotect the form with a
password - all of the protect document options are grey. I tried your
suggestion and the form was not in design mode. Do you have any other
suggestions.
