Providing Designer with Form Autogeneration Layout Hints

When I drop my schema onto the form, the form is autogenerated with a generic
layout. Is there a way that I can give InfoPath a hint as to how to design
the form from a schema based on the object type?

Yes, but I've got an externally built schema with defined types which are
reused extensively. I'd like to define or redefine how infopath generates
the form parts for these types so they show up the same (by default) every
time.
