Providing Status for all Resources Assigned to a task.

I am new to Project Server, not with Project.

In my company we do not use Project the way that it is designed. For
example, when resource loading a Project we use generic resource codes, SW
ENGINEER, HW ENGINEER, PM, etc rather than actual names. When it comes time
to status the tasks in the schedule, one person will give status for a task
or tasks even though their may be 3 to 4 resources assigned to each task.

If I understand Project Server right, it is looking for each resource to
provide status on their portion of the task. How can I get around this?

Simply put...

Is there a way for one person to provide status for an entire task using PWA
even if there are more than one resources assigned to it?

There's no surrogacy model supported in PWA, so in order to do this, you'd
need to create these resources as actual resources. Use Project Server
logons so that the surrogate reporters can easily log in and out of Project
Web Access to do the reporting under different resource accounts.
