Proxy problems accessing hotmail from outlook 2003

I am using Outlook 2003 at work.
I have internet access through a proxy server that requires authenticaton.
Nevertheless, when I log on to my computer with my domain user I can access
internet without any problems using internet explorer. The proxy does not
require further authentication because I am logged on to the domain.

I have configured a yahoo email account in Outlook 2003 and it works
perfectly. Yahoo email work via pop3/smtp.

I have configured my hotmail account in Outlook 2003 and it does not work.
The problem appears to be that Outlook needs to authenticate itself on the
proxy in order to access hotmail. This is very strange because Yahoo works
fine through the proxy. I assume this is because hotmail uses http instead of
pop3/smtp and the proxy is configured differently for http access from
outlook. Anyway, when I use the help in Outlook I am prompted for a user and
password to access the proxy. If at this time I enter the proxy user and
password, and then quickly try to access hotmail, outlook asks for the
hotmail password and downloads my email.

If I do not use the Outlook help, when I try to access hotmail I get an
error saying that my proxy requires me to authenticate. I would authenticate
myself if I were prompted for a user and password, but this is not the case.

Do you know how to solve this? Is there a way of telling outlook to ask me
for a user and password for the proxy? Or even better, shouldn't outlook
already be allowed through the proxy, since internet explorer is?

Thanks in advance for any answers, hints, ideas, etc!!
