Proxy sever settings

I have just upgraded from Office X to Office 2004. I have been using
Entourage, both at home (DSL) and at work thru a LAN. At work, I have had to
include proxy information in the preference pane. Maybe I'm missing
something, but I have not been able to find where you would set proxy
preferences in Entourage 2004.

In System Preferences/Network/Built-In Ethernet/Proxies. Entourage just uses
those now. You can set different locations differently if you wish, and just
change the location.

I have included the proxy settings that I received from my IS department in
System preferences. I need them to get on the web at work. I have included
the settings for Web (HTTP), Secure Web (HTTPS),streaming, and FTP proxies.
I still get the error message,
"The server can't be found. Be sure the mail server information is entered
correctly in the Account Manager, and that your DNS settings in the Network
Control Panel are correct.
Like I said, I used the same settings in Entourage X, and it works.
I have no problem receiving mail when I'm home on the DSL using either
Entourage X or 2004.
Thanks for your help.

Indeed, Entourage 2004 has no longer support for HTTP proxies (which ar
the most common in Windows 2k based networks). Why? Well, ask Mr. Gates
It is not very common to see an upgrade for a product being downgraded

Just set Web Proxy (HTTP) and/or Secure Web proxy (HTTPS) in System
Preferences/Network/Built-in Ethernet [or whatever you use]/Proxies.
Entourage uses you Mac OS settings.

And I'd be surprised if Mr. Gates knows anything about that.

Office uses Mac OS settings and protocols wherever possible, for
compatibility.
