PrSvr2007-Cannot Update "Remng Work" field in PWA Assgnmt Details

We are implementing PS2007. During system testing with a published project
and using Enterprise Resources, the Project Web Access Assignment Details
Page appears "locked" so that the assigned resource cannot update any field,
including the Remaining Work field. The tasks were imported from the
Timesheet. This is true for three different resources assigned to tasks in
the project. With previous installs all these Assignmt Detail fields were
updatable. All other PWA functions appear to work fine. If the resource
uses the Outlook Sync, however, the resource can update the Task's Remaining
Work field in Outlook and submit the update to PWA. In this instance, the
Remaining Work then updates in PWA. Has anyone had experience with this
issue or can suggest a possible solution?

You must have the setting enabled under Server Settings>Task Settings and
Display "Time entry by Timesheet only. Users will sync to update tasks."

The definition for this option is: "Select the Time entry by Timesheet only
check box if you want to ensure that your users always report the same
timesheet hours as task progress. Users must then import from timesheet to
update task progress and submit."

An unfortunate side effect for locking down the task updates to timesheets
is that it disables the ability to report remaining work. This, in my
opinion, renders this option useless and I would never use it. You must
enforce the actuals through governance, process, training and reporting.
