PS 2007 Forms Authentication

M

Mike Mahoney

This may be appropriate for WSS forum but I will start here first.

I find forms authentication (AspSQLMembershipProvider) very useful
particularly in development and training envirionment. It's also very
good for investigating problems specific to a person. In the
development environment I recycle forma authenticated accounts for
this purpose.

In the Live environment I also have forms authenticated accounts for
some remote users who have limited access and do not have domain
accounts. On occasion it is necessary to add new users who will use
forms authentication. Ideally I would like a PS administrator to do
this, unfortunately he/she does not have the access or skills tocreate
guids and run scripts on the project server.

Is there a simple desktop tool to add new forms authenticated users?

Thanks

Mike

A long time ago I was told by a Microsoft staff member that after they
release SP1 for Project Server 2007, they will release a suite of
downloadable tools for Project Server 2007. And in that suite, there is
supposed to be a Forms Authentication tool of some kind to make it easier to
set up Forms Authenticated users. We are now a long ways down the road from
that person's original statement, so I cannot absolutely confirm it. But it
would be nice to have such a tool, wouldn't it? :)

I saw a tool demoed that was built by the WSS guys at MS that did exactly
that, however it wasn't extended at the time to cover off Project Server.
The MS folks are aware that the setup and admin of forms auth for PS is ugly.
It would make a great ISV tool.
