ps 2007 resource name change

I'm trying to correct a minor resource entry error. I want to change the name
of a resource from smith to Smith. But, I get "resource name already in use
". I can change other resources complete name. Does it not recognize caps?

One more tidbit. I did notice that the resources where I could change name,
did have their AD id's change, where this the smith to Smith obviously didn't.

Just wondered whether it is worth making the change two step...

Change smith to another valid name not currently in Project Server
use.

Change the other name to Smith.

Didn't work. I even tried to change this resource to generic, then change the
name. So I'm assume it's not an AD issue, unless it still keeps the AD signon
somewhere.

Thanks for youir help. If anyone can solve this one, I'd greatly appreciate
it.
