PS 2007 - user administration - how to set 'is resource' flag

M

Marcin CHomicz

this is one of my first day of MS EPM experience, so forgive me if the
question is lame.
I set up EPM site and I have imported users from AD on group linking
(project-AD) basis.
OK.Thats work. But all my resources are unavailable as resource. I wonder
that 'can be assigned as resouce' flag must be set. i know how to do this for
single user . But I would like to avoid unneeded administrative effort and I
wish to make all my imported users assignable as resources in one step. How
to do this (except direct database modification)?

There are two places in which you must set up Active Directory
synchronization:

1. Click the Server Settings link in the Quick Launch menu and then click
the Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization link in the Operational
Policies section of the Server Settings page. You must specify your AD
settings here to populate the Enterprise Resource Pool with resources. I
suspect you did not do this step.

2. Click the Server Settings link in the Quick Launch menu and then click
the Manage Groups link in the Security section of the Server Settings page.
Click the Active Directory Synch Options button and then specify the
schedule for AD synch. On the Manage Groups page, click the name of each
Group individually, click the Find Group button, and select the AD group
with which to synch the Project Server security Group.

You MUST do both of these steps before AD synch will work the way you wish.
Hope this helps.

Thank you,
I discovered that security and resource pools on Project are both
synchronized with AD, but for different purposes :)
But it is still possible to use only security synchronization, manually
setting user from AD (synchronized on security level) available as resource.
The only inconvenince is that you have to do this manually for each user.

Well, you still have to set up Project Server 2007 to use AD
synchronization. I'm not sure what you are looking for beyond this. I can
tell you that you need to enlist the full cooperation of your AD
administrator to set up AD correctly for Project Server synchronization. If
it isn't set up right on the AD side, so that Project Server 2007 can import
resources and place them in security Groups, then AD synch won't work, or
won't work the way you wish. Hope this helps.
