PS07 - Close Task to Updates

T

TroyS

I'm in the PM security group and the permission to Close Tasks to Updates is
set to the default of Allow.

However, when i go into PWA, Close Tasks to Update and select my project
(where i'm owner of), i get an 'Access Denied' when i try to close a task.
The task is a sub-task not a summary task and i don't want people to update
it anymore.

any ideas on issue?

Are you members of multiple Security groups in PWA? If so, is there a Deny
selection for the Close Tasks To Updates permission in any one of those
Groups? If so, that would trump the Allow permission in the Project
Managers group. Let us know what you find.

Hi TroyS.

As I remember well, a user should also have the global permission 'manage
time tracking' before he/she can close tasks to updates.
I think this is not the way microsoft should have developed this
functionality as the close tasks privilege should be possible to give away to
PM's without giving them Admin privilieges in time trakcing options (where
they can add/delete administrative time categories and so on).

hope this helps.

That was the key. I turned the 'manage time tracking' off and on from the PM
security group and could toggle between being able to close tasks to updates
and getting the access denied.
thx.

Dale,
the user (me) is only in the one Security group = Project Managers
There was another post/reply which indicated having 'manage time tracking'
also set to allow. I was able to turn this on to allow and could
successfully close tasks as a user in the Project Manager security group.

If i take that permission away, i get the access denied in the Close Tasks
to Updates window.
