PS2003-Custom Outline Code

M

Mark Byington

I created a TASK Custom Outline Code in the Enterprise Global Template for
capitalized tasks. I created a Project view on PWA to show these tasks. I
also created a View Resource Assignments view to show them.

Often when a PM creates a New Project and designates some of the tasks as
Capitalized in the new field(column) it will be viewable in the Project view,
but not in the View Resource Assignments view.

To correct, I have to open the new project, then go to Tools, Customize,
Published Fields and move the field from the available column to the 'Fields
in the task view' column. Then I have to republish the tasks.

Only then, will they show up in the new capitalized view in the View
Resource Assignments view.

Why is that? Is anyone familiar with this?

TIA

What you see is not a bug. It is the standard behavior for adding custom
fields to the View My Tasks page. To spare your PM's some misery, please
add this custom field to each of your organization's enterprise project
template. Also, be sure to teach your PM's how to add this custom field to
the list of Published fields in currently existing projects. Hope this
helps.

Thanks Dale,

More training I guess. While it may not BE a bug, it sure seems like one
and is frustrating like one because now when new projects are created, the
PM's have to 'do more stuff' to get the desired results. (My editorial
opinion!)

Well, if you are going to spend the time on training, point out the Set As
Default button in the Published Fields dialog. Ask your PM's to open a new
blank project, click Tools - Customize - Published Fields, add the custom
field to the list on the right, and then click the Set As Default button.
This way, if they create projects from new blank projects, the custom field
is already there. Also, as I stated in my last post, you really need to add
this custom field to the Published Fields list in each enterprise project.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Dale. Ya know, I bet I'M not clicking the 'Set as Default' button
although I know to, which is probably why this issue keeps coming up.

DUH, head slap me! (Feeling foolish)

Thanks again,

You are always more than welcome, my friend! In Project Server 2002 and
2003, so many things were non-intuitive. In Project Server 2007, Microsoft
has made some things easier, like publishing (File - Publish and that's it).
And then again, they have made things immensely harder, like the interaction
between the My Timesheet page and the My Tasks page, which is not automatic.
This is why people need to buy our books, as we experience the pain so that
you don't have to! (Shameless pitch for our books) Hope this helps.
