PS2003 new project notification

Hello

We are currently using PS2003 and I was wondering if there is any way
that I (as the administrator) can receive a notification every time
somebody sets up a new project schedule?

Our aim is to know as soon as new project schedules are setup so that
we can review them and make sure that they meet our criteria and best
practices and I don't know what the best and most efficient way would
be to do this.

Thank you for your help

Rosa.

Hello Rosa,

I am not sure there is an feature on out of box. You can define the
custom functionality as below:
You have to define Insert trigger on MSP_Projects table and call the
stored procedure on trigger event to send the email (by using
xp_sendmail) notification.

Another alternative I can suggest you, disable "New Project"
permission for Project Managers group. So, they will not allow to
create the new project, and you can define the process that all the
PMs have to send MPP to administrator. So, administrator can review
the project plan and load the new project and assigned PM as owner.

Most of the organizations use this practice to review the projects
prior to loading in to MS Project Server.

I hope this helps.

Thanks
Chak

There is no default with in Project Server 2003 to notify the Project Server
administrator whenever a PM creates a new project. Therefore, your choices
are:

1. Custom software development for this purpose.
2. Establish a methodology mandating that the PM contact the admin every
time he/she creates a new project.
3. Include a task at the beginning of every project called "Notify Project
Server Administrator of New Project" or something like that. Then the PM
would need to add you to the team and assign you to this task. When he/she
publishes the project, you would get the e-mail automatically.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Dale and Chak for your suggestions. I had a feeling it was
going to be a procedures issue. Do you know if PS2007 gives this
functionality? ... Worth asking the question :)

Thanks again

No, Project Server 2007 works much the same, however, you can probably have
a software developer write custom code that is attached to the new project
event and that runs everytime a new new project is created. But Project
Server 2007 does not have the automatic functionality you seek "out of the
box" so to speak. Truthfully, I would simply recommend that you establish a
communication process that mandates what you seek. Teach your PMs the
process and then hold them accountable for this behavior. Hope this helps.
