PS2003 with a SQL2005 Named Instance?

Hello Everyone,

Is it possible to build the standard cube on a project server 2003 system when
using a SQL 2005 named instance?

SQL 2000 didn't include the notion of a named instance and project server 2003
doesn't appear to accept the servername\instance notation. More specifically,
it doesn't accept a backslash in the servername.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible, or not possible?

I found the answer after a lot of looking and am posting it here for future
reference.

Yes, it is possible to build a Project Server 2003 Cube using a name instance
of SQL Analysis Services 2005.

The trick is that you have to refer to the named instance by is port number
rather than by name. For example if a SSAS instance with the name ProjSrv1 on
a SQL server named ProjectServer is configured to listen on TCP/IP port 3545,
you will need to enter the name of the SQL Server as ProjectServer:3545 when
you configure the cube in PWA Admin.

The details, including how to find the named instance port number, can be found
near the bottom of a TechNet article at:
