[PS2007] - Ghost Project Files

G

godrid

I found that I have 2 ghost project files that are not visible from the
project open function. The 2 ghost project files are located in the delete
enterprise project list and they could not be deleted. The ghost projects is
checked out and job state being "Waiting To Be Processed". The jobs are found
in the queue but never get processed. How do I get rid of the ghost jobs and
any ideas to avoid it in future?

Hi Godrid,

that is interesting :)
firstly can you check if you can actually see the projects within Project
Professional ( they may be proejcts that have been saved but not yet
published).

Also you may want to check to whom the projects are checked out. You dont
want to delete projects that may be in use by someone else.

I would also give a curtesy look into the event log, just to see that
Project Server works ok.

On how to delete the "gost" project, I am not sure, but if it doesnt show
int he Project center, you may not even need to delete them at all.
Hope this kinda helps :)

Hi Marc,

Thanks for your reply.

I could not see the projects within Project Professional or Project Center
but I could see that the 2 projects are checked out by me. Even I try to
force check in the 2 projects, the job state is always showing "Waiting To Be
Processed". I just could not check in or delete the project.

The eventlog seems ok to me.

Hi Marc !

Go to SQL Management studio
1) Click on Draft database
2) Open MSP_PROJECTS table
3) find your "ghost" project strings.
4) find CHECKOUT_BY column (approximatelly in the middle of table)
5) set NULL in column above for ghost project string
6) try to delete project from PWA

Please note -it is not polite way to checkin projects. but if you have no
other way..
Be carefull with editing data directlly in database.

hi Godrid,

Just to put some more reemphisis on Vadims post, make sure that you have a
backup of the DB. Accessing data directly in the DB requires a very good
knowledge of the system.
PS: I believe it does work what Vadim suggested :) but please be careful

Hi Vadim,

I try your suggestion to checkin the project but still encounter the same
problem deleting the project from the draft database. When I perform the
delete operation, the project is automatically checked-out again and the
status is "Waiting to be processed" and never get removed. Just wonder
whether I could just remove the records from the draft database. I believe
this project file never get published in the first place because the project
professional crashes during the initial saving of the project plan.

Hi Vadim,

Just realized that the project type for the 2 ghost projects is categorized
as "New Project" in the Delete Enterprise Object list.
