I have seen several good articles regarding master and sub projects.
They all say that the gray tasks that I see in the Project desktop
client are due to the external dependencies between the projects
(either predecessor or successor). My question – this is not
occurring consistently in all cases. In most cases (~80%-90%), the
linked task shows the grayed task either before or after (depending on
whether it is predecessor or successor) – which is correct. But in the
remaining cases (10%-20%), there are no gray tasks shown even though
the task has an external dependency. I am trying to figure out why
the discrepancy? I cannot see an obvious pattern and was hoping
someone had seen this before and could explain why it is not happening
with all tasks that have an external dependency. All projects (both
master and sub) are saved on the server and have been published.
NOTE: We are using Project Server 2007 (not sure if it is related to
using the server or not) Also, the discrepancy is occurring in both
the project and sub-projects.
