PS2007: No data is shown for formula-based custom fields in PWA

Rayk Grabosch

I use Project Server 2007 and got the following problem with formulas:

If I create a formula-based custom field (number) on task level, I cannot
see any data in the respective column of a project view in PWA.

However, trying to add the same custom field in a view in Project
Professional Client is successful: The calculated number is shown correctly.

Why is the custom field not shown properly in PWA? Is that a bug in PS2007?

This is probably a dumb question, but have your PM's actually published
their projects (File - Publish) after you created the field? Let us know.

Hi Rayk,

I presume that you created the custom field in Project Professional. That
would have been right in 2003, but 2007 you will now need to create the
formula on the Web. If you go into the Server Settings under custom fields
you will be able to create a new custom field and choose the formula option.
This will allow you to create an enterprise task custom field. This custom
field is accessable via PWA. The custom fields you create in Project
Professional directly are not accessble within Project Web Access.
I hope this helps

Hi,

@Marc: I have created the custom field via PWA
@Dale: I have published a project via PWA (Project Center --> Edit Project
Properties --> Save and Publish). This does not lead to the desired result.
However, publishing the project via Professional Client does allow to see
data in PWA.

Thanks for the advice. However, I wonder why it does not work when projects
are published via PWA.

Regards,
Rayk

The publishing behavior you see is one of the known bugs in Project Server
2007. My advice is to always publish from Project Professional 2007. Hope
this helps.

In addition to Dale's suggestion, I recommend that you simply do not use the
publish function in PWA if you have any custom fields that use formulas or
graphical indicators. These will always be "wiped out" by the PWA publish
function for any project that you use it on.
