PS2007 Resource Plans

In several places in PWA 2007 you can create project resource plans.
They are clearly different from building a team and making resource
assignments. I am assuming they are intended to capture the resource
managers view of the resource negotiation with the project manager -
is this correct? If so how can the resource manager get a
consolidated view of these plans by resource or by project? (a new
cube perhaps?). How can he compare the allocation with the detailed
task assignment? Or am I expecting too much of this function?

Hi Mike,

the resource plan is not only for resource manager, but for Project Managers
that need to have a different granularity of resource planning.
Lets assume you have a project but you cant ( or dont want to) assign
resources to every task. With the resource plan you have the abillity to say
"I need these resources for a certain amount of time during a certain
timeframe". You can then decide to use this information to calculate the
utlaisation of your staff. It would take to long to give you an overall
functionality overview, but the msdn has a great article that you may find of
interest. It describes the functionality and gives examples.
try:

What I can tell you based on my experience, it is a great new start to a
different approach on Resource Managment. There are some gaps, ( e.g.
sufficient reporting) that you will have to build on top of this
functionality to make it a great tool.
I hope this helps

FYI, I have a post on my personal blog where I take you through some of the
real world use scenarios for Activity Plan/Resource Planfunctionality. See
it here: http://evildoctorporkchop.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!88E61D218103A246!4...

I have played around with this functionality. In particular setting
FTE values against a resource on a monthly basis and reviewing it on a
weekly basis and getting flaky results. Is this a reasonable action
on my part? Do other users see this behaviour?
