PS2007 - Task Updates

T

TroyS

Just to be sure i understand what's going on:

1) Timesheet data goes to a timesheet manager for approval and does not go
to the Project Owner (schedule owner)
2) Only Task Updates go to the project owner to approve into the schedule
2a) It appears that the Task Updates does not open up the project schedule
(as it did in PS2003) though there is the Preview function

2b) I can populate my Tasks updates from my Timesheet OR i can populate my
Timesheet from My Task? Do they have to be approved in one before i can
populate the other?

any clarification and/or links to read up on would be helpful as i'm not
seeing what the intention is around Tasks vs. Timesheet updates and How
"best" to use.

thx

Excellent questions. The answers are:

1. Correct.
2. Correct.
2a. Correct, but the PM can actually open Project Professional 2007, open a
project with pending updates, and then Accept/Reject the updates there.
2b. Correct. I personally recommend doing the Timesheet data on a daily
basis, and then importing the Timesheet data to the My Tasks page. But
users can do them in either order.

The best way to use the Timesheet functionality is to capture all types of
time, including working time on project and non-project work, and
non-working time. If your organization does not need to capture and report
on all types of time, then I recommend you ditch the Timesheet feature and
use the My Tasks functionality only. It's really an organizational
decision. Hope this helps.
