.pst and address book

B

Bob Watts

I have imported .pst files that are populated. In Outlook
when I click on Contacts, I see them.

However, when I click on New and then the address book
icon, nothing (a blank) is returned. The same thing
happens in MS Word when attempting to create an envelope
and click on the address book icon.

Does anybody know how to correct this?

Tks,
Bob Watts

You need to configure your Outlook Address Book Service.

You failed to post your Outlook version, so you can read through all this
information and cull out what you need.

It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or OS. Use the following steps to reset the connection,
depending on your Outlook version. Note that in some instances you may
actually have to remove the Outlook Address Book completely from your
Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it before you can get it to work.

Outlook 2000, Corp/Workgroup:
Go to Tools > Services. Make sure the Outlook Address Book service is
listed. If not, add it. Next, R click on the Contact folder or folders you
want the OAB to display, choose "Properties", go to the Outlook Address Book
tab and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box. You may
also need to go to Tools > Options > Addressing Tab and choose to show your
Contacts folder.

Outlook 2002:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book. If it is not listed, back up one step
and add it. If it is, then click on Change. to make sure the Contacts
folder(s) you want to display are listed. You may need to enable the
Contacts Folder as an e-mail address book by R clicking the Folder >
Properties and check the "Show this folder as an E-mail address book" box.
Make sure you restart Outlook after making these changes.

I am looking for information on this type of situation -
importing an address book from a 98 laptop to an XP home
desktop - both computers running outlook 2000, however,
Outlook was using Microsoft Address book for it's "email
address book". When I export this address book file to a
floppy on the 98 Laptop, then onto the XP computer's
desktop, when I open the file from the desktop, there are
no contacts showing. The floppy file is fine when opened
on the 98 Laptop. When imported, again, it shows no
contacts.

Is there somewhere to read information about the
difference between the Outlook Contacts as the "address
book" and Microsoft address book and how you can work with
both, merge them possibly, and export/import them
successfully. Sorry to intrude on this conversation, I
thought possibly this information would be helpful to the
original posting situation.
Thanks,
Kay
